Community
Engagement

Highwire is passionate about the future of circus. From supporting skills development in our performers, to sharing circus workshops with regional communities, we like to have a positive impact.

Some of our projects have been government-funded, and some are offerings we can tour along with our existing shows. Some of our projects are tailored to established artists, some to youth and emerging artists, and of course we have offerings for those who are brand-new to circus as well.

Check out what we have, and get in touch if you and your community would like to connect with Highwire.

Highwire's Circus Artist Residency Program

LIVEWIRE

From 2022-2023, Highwire Entertainment created, organised, launched, and ran a unique artist residency program, “Livewire”. This brought together the incredible artists in our company, with regional Victorian circus spaces.

We were able to facilitate workshops, developments, rehearsals and creations. It was an amazing, a unique opportunity for a company like ours - especially as the industry rebounded from COVID shutdowns.

With the support of Creative Victoria, we were able to achieve the following:

1229

Audience members across all Livewire public presentations, including works-in-development and cabarets.

37

Individual Victorian circus artists receiving paid training and development opportunities.

6

Connections created to regional Victorian circus spaces.

2

Existing Highwire shows redeveloped for national and international touring,

65

Students from emerging circus arts schools who participated in workshops with Highwire Entertainment.

7

Public performances of works-in-development or cabarets co-produced by our host venues.

4

Emerging circus artists invited to train with the company in Mildura.

2

Brand new shows (circus & cabaret) created for premieres in 2024 and beyond.

Special thanks to Creative Victoria's Creative Ventures Program for funding this opportunity, and to our venue / artistic partners for joining us on the adventure: Mildura Circus School, Asking For Trouble, CircArts Geelong, Nexus, and Castlemaine Circus School.

We are excited to continue building the next phase  of Livewire, supporting Highwire artists and our project partners into the future.
